About Returnonbehavior
A magazine of customer behavior. Who we are, what we cover across Conversion, UX, Pricing, Retention and Analytics, how we report and correct our work, and how to reach the Returnonbehavior editorial desk.
Returnonbehavior is an independent publication covering why customers click, buy, stay and leave, and what product, growth and design teams can do about it. A magazine of customer behavior — written for Founders, product managers, marketers, and growth and UX teams who want careful, evidence-led writing on how customers actually behave, and published on a simple premise: the people who actually do this work deserve the version that survives contact with it.

Why Returnonbehavior exists
Coverage of Conversion, UX, Pricing, Retention and Analytics tends to split into two unhelpful halves: press releases with a byline attached, and commentary from people who have never had to ship, buy, or live with the thing being discussed. Returnonbehavior was started to sit in the gap — close enough to the subject to know what actually changed, far enough from it to say so plainly.
Our editorial voice is deliberate: patient, exact and skeptical of easy wins. We start from what customers actually did, show the evidence and its limits, name the trade-off, and end with something your team can try on Monday. That shows up as features, explainers, how-to guides, ranked lists, head-to-head comparisons and opinion — whichever format answers the question a reader actually arrived with, rather than whichever one fills the most space.
Who writes here
Every piece on Returnonbehavior carries the name of the person who reported and wrote it. 6 writers currently file for us across Conversion, UX, Pricing, Retention and Analytics, and each of them keeps a profile page listing their background, their beat, and everything they've published on this site.
Where a story has been independently fact-checked, the reviewer is credited separately from the writer, so you can tell who reported a claim and who checked it. Nothing here is published under a house byline or an invented persona.
What we cover
- Conversion Landing pages, sign-up flows, checkouts and paywalls: where intent turns into action, and where it quietly leaks away.
- UX Usability research, onboarding and interface design, judged by what people actually do on the screen rather than what they say.
- Pricing Anchors, decoys, plans and billing: the psychology of how customers read a price and decide what something is worth.
- Retention Habits, lifecycle messaging and churn: why customers come back in week two, and what makes them stop.
- Analytics Cohorts, funnels and experiments: reading product data honestly, including the numbers that flatter you.
How we work
-
We report before we opine
Analysis on Returnonbehavior starts from something checkable — a filing, a release, a data set, a conversation with someone who was in the room. Where we're inferring rather than reporting, the piece says so in the sentence that does the inferring.
-
Corrections happen in public
When we get something wrong we fix it in place and note the correction on the article itself, with what changed and when. We don't quietly edit a mistake out of the record.
-
Commercial relationships never buy coverage
Some links may be sponsored. Our editors choose what we cover, and no software vendor, agency or platform pays to shape a story or a recommendation. Sponsored links are marked where they appear and carry the appropriate link attributes. No sponsor sees a story before publication, and no commercial relationship decides whether a topic gets covered or what we conclude about it.
-
We write for the person doing the work
This site is written for Founders, product managers, marketers, and growth and UX teams who want careful, evidence-led writing on how customers actually behave — not for a search engine, and not for an industry insider looking to be flattered. If a piece can't survive being read by someone who does this for a living, it isn't ready to publish.
